Guide to the "Autorización de Regreso"
Everything you need to know to travel outside Spain and return without issues.
An "Autorización de Regreso" (Authorization to Return) is a temporary travel permit that allows a non-EU resident of Spain to leave and re-enter the country if their residence card (TIE) has expired and is currently being renewed, or if it has been stolen and a duplicate is being processed.
This authorization is valid for a maximum of 90 days and is essential for avoiding problems with border control upon your return to Spain.

Bring your expired TIE card. If you are in the process of renewing it, you must also provide the "resguardo" (receipt) proving that you have submitted your renewal application.
Travel Tickets
You should bring a copy of your flight or travel tickets showing your departure and return dates. This proves the necessity and urgency of your travel.
You must request an appointment at the corresponding police station or foreigner's office. On the day of the appointment, an official will review your documents.
If everything is correct, they will issue the "Autorización de Regreso" on the spot. It is a paper document that you must keep with your passport during your travels.
